Physical Exercises for Mental Growth

With so much research and technology being available to help with brain training and improving your mental health, the core psychology of using physical exercises for mental growth is easily overlooked. After all, it’s a lot easier to do a brain training game than it is to do a physical workout.

It doesn’t have to be that way though as it only takes 20 minutes of brief exercising to promote mental health and it’s more effective too.

Through the extensive research that’s been conducted, we now know that just going for a brief run works wonders on your brain. The reason for that is that it helps your brain to grow new cells.

The birth of those brain cells gives way to the production of a few different chemicals in the brain.

Serotonin:

Serotonin is essential for a positive mental attitude. This is the chemical that’s responsible for your moods. A serotonin deficiency results in feeling depressed. Sometimes it can be severe enough that people need to be prescribed medication to boost the production of serotonin.

When you workout though, the neurogenesis process kicks in and starts to give birth to new brain cells that will assist in the natural production of serotonin, which is why people will experience that “high” after performing physical exercise.

It promotes natural mental growth.

Endorphins:

When you workout, you’re body produces endorphins. What these do for your mental health is they decrease cortisol levels. These are your body’s stress hormones and increasing endorphin production through exercise is another reason that you feel better about yourself. It increases your self-esteem. With self-esteem, you’re more confident and the more confident you feel, the better you can perform when put under pressure.

Dopamine:

Dopamine is the ultimate chemical that your brain can produce to promote mental growth. Dopamine acts as a neurotransmitter, to send signals between the nerve cells in your brain.

Those 4 chemicals produced by the brain naturally, all work together to promote mental growth when you perform physical exercise.

The best type of exercise to help promote mental growth is cardiovascular training. That’s what improves your blood circulation, feeds more oxygen to the brain, regulates your blood pressure, and lowers cholesterol levels.

All of those areas add up to an excellent, all natural process to stimulate mental growth, and the best part of it all is that you only need to do about 20 minutes of brief cardiovascular training to reap the benefits.

Physical workouts lead to increased mental alertness

With the increase in brain cell development, combined with the boost in testosterone, serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins…it creates a scenario where you’re more mentally alert.

In terms of mental growth, it’s helping to increase your cognitive capabilities and that keeps your brain mentally alert.

It’s particularly important for older people, as that’s when your brain starts to get under-reactive and you can find yourself suffering from memory loss and possibly even become prone to having falls due to cognitive dysfunctions.

The better you can keep your brain trained, the better your brain can continue to keep developing new cells to keep it strong and therefore improve your cognitive capabilities.
